Benguerra Lodge Welcomes back….
Zadia Armstrong rejoined our Reservations team at the beginning
of February. Zadia is very knowledgeable on Moçambique and will
gladly assist you with your enquiries. She took over from Marike
Lategan, who left us to pursue her dream of starting her own
business. Marike with her bubbly personality was a great asset
to Benguerra Lodge and we wish her all the best. |

Horse Riding at Benguerra Lodge:
We are excited to announce that Benguerra Lodge has introduced
horse riding as an additional activity for guests staying at the
Lodge. Squib was the first horse to set foot on Benguerra Island
when Pat Retzlaff and his team brought the small herd of 10
horses, consisting of Arabs, Thoroughbreds and South African
Boerperd to the island on a barge. |
It took 3 hours to get all the horses safely from the barge onto
the island. The moment they set foot on land, they immediately
headed for the first bit of greenery they saw, which was Andrew
and Bonny’s garden! All the horses were originally rescued from
Zimbabwe during the land reform process so each has a special
and sometimes sad story. The horses have settled in well on the
island.
Guests who have taken part in the Island rides can testify that
this is an exciting new way of exploring Benguerra island from
the beautiful white beaches to the top of the hills to watch
beautiful Mozambican sunsets. |

The last of the
Bungalows:
The two existing Bungalows at Benguerra Lodge are still
some of the first rooms we built when the lodge was
originally opened 18 years ago. They have always been
favourites with our guests who enjoyed their open and
airy character. |

|
But sadly times are changing, and
the bungalows have now outlived their original purpose. Our
maintenance teams have done repairs to them after the Cyclone,
but compared to our newly built, luxurious Casitas and the
slightly smaller but also very elegant Cabanas, which both have
private decks, plunge pools and direct sea views, the old
bungalows unfortunately do not live up to guests’ expectations
anymore. For this reason, we have taken the decision to rather
use the remaining two old bungalows exclusively for
pilots/guides accommodation.
The child bungalows are not affected by this decision. Our child
bungalows offers more basic accommodation, but are only booked
in conjunction with a Casita. The children can make use of all
the facilities of their parents Casita. Alternatively, for
families, the Villa is still an excellent option, as it consists
of two separate rooms. |

Small building project:
From the 15th of April until the 30th of May 2008 we will be
constructing a new Villa on Benguerra Island. This Villa will
eventually replace our existing Villa Zanzibar. The building
work will be taking place on the far side of the lodge and we
have closed the 4 rooms situated closest to the building site to
ensure that it has minimum impact on the in-house guests. The
building site is also sheltered by trees and will be discreetly
screened off. We will keep you posted on the exciting new
developments. |

Post Indaba Visits:
Please contact us if you are planning a post Indaba visit to
Moçambique. May is filling up quickly and we have limited
availability. There has been so many developments and changes to
all the properties in the region after last years Cyclone, that
it would be well worth the visit. We look forward to hearing
from you in this regard. |
